Keywords: Reaching the shores.
When dreams are dashed on the shore of the island of dreams, find treasure on the island.
Background to the essence
The Isle of May is a magical place off the coast of Fife which is summer-home to breeding seabirds including many puffins. There are also many seals. Sometimes you cannot reach the island in heavy seas and it looks like a dream-island in its inaccessibility. The light changes constantly and from different viewpoints the isle changes its shape. There is something about islands inhabited only by wildlife – a clear quality which seems to be universal. This essence is every island with this quality. It is about the total trashing of dreams which precedes the clarity about what treasure is attainable after the storm.
When your dreams may be shattered
On the shores
Of the island of dreams
Find your treasure on the island.
If May Isle comes in your dreaming,
And the boat draws
You with puffins flying
Find your sleep on its ridges.
If other isles be in your waking
And your shores are elsewhere
They shelter you too
Find your harvest all round you.
So take your dreams over the shingle
Leave the tide empty
Keep what you own
Find your self flying back.
The sound of each island protects
What you create
And treasures its knowing
You will remake your dream.
